Note from M0GCR    [03 Mar 2005]

I'm happy to tell you that VP8BF and M0GCR really do exist!
The calls from Rothera (a UK Antarctic base) on 12th February did happen and I'm preparing QSL cards. It was my 72nd birthday and one to remember. I gather that there was a real pile-up on the frequency.
The VP8BF callsign was my original one from when I was operating in the area between 1953 and 1958. I also operated VP8BF/MM and M0GCR/MM from the icebreaker Polar Star. Please send QSL's to M0GCR at RSGB. UK and I'll reply to all that I can verify.
There should have been more activity but my 30 ft glassfibre mast disintegrated in high wind. Sorry to all the people who tried in vain to contact me.
